Brand strategy for boutique fitness studios.

What the studio is, who it's for and why they'll choose it over the one ten minutes away. Worked out before anything is designed.

A studio isn't a gym with nicer lighting. It's a timetable, a price ladder and a reason to come back on a wet Tuesday.

Strategy starts there, with the business, not the moodboard.

What we look at.

Before we write a word of positioning, we look at the things that decide whether a studio fills its classes.

  • Your members. Who books, who stays, and who tried once and never came back.
  • The competition. Every studio within fifteen minutes, and what they charge.
  • Class mix. Which classes fill, which don't, and what your timetable says about you.
  • Price ladder. Intro offer, packs and memberships, and the step between each one.
  • Capacity. Beds, bikes or mats per class, and when the room is full.
  • Location. Who lives and works nearby, and how they get to you.
  • Booking journey. Every step from a first visit to a first class.
  • Founder story. Why you're doing this, and what you won't compromise on.

What you get.

Written down, signed off, and used for every decision after it.

  • Positioning. Who the studio is for, and why they'll choose it. Used for every brand and website decision.
  • Audience profiles. The two or three kinds of member you're building for. Used for offers, content and ads.
  • Proposition and offer. Class mix, intro offer and membership structure. Used for the pricing page and pre-sale.
  • Name. Researched, checked and ready to register (Studio Launch only).
  • Messaging framework. What you say first, second and third. Used for the website, social and signage.
  • Tone of voice. How the studio sounds, with examples, for anyone who writes for you.
  • Launch strategy. What happens before, during and after opening, for your first eight weeks.

Questions about brand strategy

Do I need strategy if I already know my concept?

Usually, yes, but it may be quick. Knowing your concept and having it written down so a designer, a developer and your first instructors all make the same decisions are different things.

If your thinking is already clear, the workshop confirms it and we move on faster.

Is naming included?

In Studio Launch, yes: we research names, check domains and social handles, and run a trademark search before you commit.

What does a positioning statement actually look like?

One or two sentences that say who the studio is for, what it offers them and why it's different. It's an internal tool, not a tagline. Everything visible on the brand and website is checked against it.

Can you help with pricing?

We help you structure it: the intro offer, packs and memberships, and how each leads to the next. The numbers are your decision, and we'll show you how comparable studios nearby price theirs.
