What founders ask us before they open
Straight answers, from more than ten years inside studio operations and booking technology.
When should the website go live before opening?
In two stages. A holding page goes live in week 3 of the project, with founding memberships on sale through your booking platform from day one.
The full site follows at the end of the project, once there’s a timetable and photos of the space. Aim for it to be live at least four weeks before opening, ideally six to eight, so new visitors can book intro offers as well as founding memberships. Selling through your booking platform from the start means no forms or spreadsheets: every founding member is in the system from their first payment.
Should the intro offer be on the homepage?
Yes, for a new studio. Put one intro offer near the top of the homepage, with the price.
A first-time visitor isn’t choosing between twelve products. They’re deciding whether to try one class. Keep class packs and memberships one click away on a pricing page. A homepage that leads with the full price list makes that first decision harder.
How should founding memberships work?
Cap them, and write the rules down before you sell one. A founding membership works because it’s limited and it rewards people for committing early.
Decide how many you can honour at your busiest times without crowding out new members, whether the rate is locked for life or for a fixed term, and what happens if someone pauses or cancels. A smaller founding group at a rate you can sustain beats a sold-out one you resent by month six.
Do I need a brand before I choose a booking platform?
No. Choose the platform early, alongside the brand.
The platform decides a lot about the website: how the timetable displays, whether people can pick a bed or a bike, how intro offers and packs are sold, and what the booking screens look like. Chosen early, the site is designed around it. Chosen late, the site gets patched to fit.
Which booking platform should a new reformer studio use?
It depends on how you sell, so compare them on the same questions. Before you sign, ask every platform:
Can clients choose a specific reformer? How are intro offers, packs and founding memberships set up? What does the booking flow look like on your own website and on a phone? What does it cost as you add instructors, classes and a second site? And how do you get your client data out if you leave? We’ll help you put the answers side by side.
How long does Studio Launch take?
Six weeks from kickoff to the full site, with founding memberships on sale from week 3 of the project. Starting earlier gives you more time to sell founding memberships before you open.
Plan for the full site to be live at least four weeks before your doors open, ideally six to eight. Use the planner above to work out your start date.
Do I need the whole thing?
Usually, yes: the three stages depend on each other. If you already have a brand you’re keeping, Brand & Digital may suit you better, and we’ll tell you honestly on the first call.
